When you are responsible for one of the worst nuclear disasters in history, the best thing to do is to have the homeless clean it up.
Yes. This IS happening.
So APPARENTLY organized crime in Japan are having the homeless clean up the mess made by TEPCO and the Japanese government. Yes. They ARE doing this.
Let me tell you a story that MAY be somewhat tangentally related...
When I was living in Japan (Yamanashi-shi to be exact), I used to read about how Japanese police had very little authority compared to us here in the states.
How so?
Well, one example that was made rather regularly to me was that of the dilemma of how to respond to charges of child abuse by their parents. According to these articles, it was often stated that these cops couldn't do ANYTHING unless they had permission from the parents... WHO WERE OFTEN DOING THE ABUSE. Hell, they often couldn't even enter the house?
The Japanese government likes to pretend that it fights organized crime. In fact, apartment lease documents often state that people involved with the Yakuza can't even rent most apartments. However, in practice, the government's execution of this fight is less than satisfactory. Signs of this can be seen in any red-light district, where the Yakuza has a huge controlling stake in their operation. I can't tell you how many time I walked by punch-perms on my way to places in big cities.
So in short, fuck the Japanese government for being too much of a pussy to stop this from happening. And fuck you, TEPCO for getting us into this mess.
