Well, kinda.  You see, the jury's still out on this one.  Let me explain.

So there's this DVD "documentary" hitting mailboxes in Ohio and floating around these here tubes known as the InterWebs.  It's called "Dreams from My Real Father: A Story of Reds and Deception." Kinda tells you the whole thing right there, doesn't it? As explained here, it was produced by supposed right-wing producer Joel Gilbert. It can be seen on YouTube directly from what I believe to be his own channel here. Here's the film itself, because why the hell not?

... it already has political fanatics on BOTH sides frothing at the mouth.  Predictably, conservatives are once again saying this is the worst thing a human being could do. Here are some examples:

Okay, so they're not the most authoritative of sources. But on the other side, we have liberals just simply saying it's not her.  They rightly say that it's a hell of a desperation attempt at a Mitt Romney presidency, but they state that there is no way it can possibly be her. Here is The Young Turks' Cenk Uygur on the topic:

I watched that video three times, much to my chagrin... OF COURSE IT'S NOT HER!! First of all, back in 1960, about 50% of the women looked just like that. Secondly IT'S NOT HER!! Third of all, how crazy are you?

I find myself usually on Cenk's side.  Sure he's obnoxious as all hell sometimes, but he usually sees things the right way.  He has criticized the Obama administration plenty for the same things I feel he's fucked up on; continuing Bush-era defense policies, being all too willing to negotiate away things very important to other progressives, etc.

But you notice something?  He has NOTHING to back up his assertions that that is not Obama's mother. NOTHING!  Let's take a look at the comparison shot:

The video makes a DAMN good argument (in it's own scummy way, of course) that it's the same woman.

Now, let's take a look at the family pic where this image of Ann Dunham comes from:

If it's not her, it's ONE HELL of a coindcidence. If I'm wrong, and the truth comes out, I'll update this with my retraction.

Now after all that, what do I think? Do I think that changes anything? Does it make me more likely to vote for Mitt Romney this year?

Absolutely not.  If anything, if this makes me even MORE on Obama's side. While I certainly am not going to vote for Obama either, to try to sink someone by using  HIS DEAD MOTHER is below low. It is well past under the bottom of the barrel.

But that's the kind of thing we've been seeing from this version of the Republicans.  Non-stop attacks.  The guy can't do anything right even though he's been using THEIR ideas.

In the past, he's been accused of not being an American due to his father being of Kenyan descent.  In this video, they are claiming now that an AMERICAN, Frank Marshall Davis, is actually his real father. So does that mean that he IS American now??  MAKE UP YOUR GODDAMN MINDS.

Besides ALL that, I'm a red-blooded American male. I love me some kinds of pornography. I have NO problem with someone personally whatsoever if they decide to go into it.

Besides, as YouTube commentor ViolentRiC says on this very same TYT video:

You're missing the point here Cenk, whether it's true or not is not as important as

a) the fact that he has no control over what his mother did or didn't do - how can you blame a man for what his mother did?

b) they're shamelessley trying to slander a person's deceased parent.

The second reason is why I, if I were an undecided voter, would want nothing to do with the party responsible. That's vile.

Indeed, it is vile. Vile and desperate.

Well, Mitt, looks like the 47% are coming home to roost this November.  Good luck at the debate tonight.
