THE SLEDGE-A-TORIAL: Laughable Liberals!

Twitter: https://twitter.com/SLEDGEATORIAL

It's hard to deal with being a progressive liberal. ESPECIALLY when those who are supposed to "represent" you in the mainstream are such idiots.

In this edition of the SLEDGE-A-TORIAL, Chris "Sledge" Douglas discusses the issues surrounding MSNBC, Melissa Harris-Perry, and Barack Obama.

THE SLEDGE-A-TORIAL: The Ballad of Teddy Cruz

Once upon a time, there was a politician by the name of Rand Paul. He garnered much attention for his filibuster, the first time in ages when an ACTUAL filibuster happened, despite the countless procedural activities labeled 'filibuster' done by our representatives and senators. He actually stood and talked for hours for the purpose of preventing something from passing.

While there are many key areas where I disagree with Mr. Paul, his stance against drone usage and constant warfare is something I do agree with.

Mr. Paul's activity was widely noticed by both the mainstream press and the public at large. But someone else noticed him... Ted Cruz

Shutdown 2013 - Quotes from the Foreign Press

So, needless to say (but I'm still going to say it, because that's what I do), we are in the midst of a government shutdown. This is just the second one I've seen in my lifetime...

...but it seems just as ridiculous so far as the first.

And I'm not the only one who sees it this way.

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL - Abu Ghraib Injustice Made Even Worse

By: Chris "Sledge" Douglas

So you remember THIS right?  Well, in case you don't, back in 2004 these horrific photos surfaced basically confirming that, on top of our then-secret indefinite detention policies, indeed torture was being used against prisoners at Abu Ghraib.  I remember this very well, because the news broke as I was visiting Japan for the first time.  Contractor CACI International executed the practice, and the prisoners eventually sued.

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL - $172k Not Enough for a Congressman?

Well, I'm not exactly surprised, but yet I still feel the need to discuss this.  According to the National Review, during a closed-door meeting to discuss a potiential bill to exempt lawmakers and their staff from the ACA (Obamacare), at some point, Georgia Representative Phil Gingrey (R) brought up the following:

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL - To Mr. McCain...

THIS is how seriously our overlords in Washington D.C. take the idea of going to war...

UPDATE: In John Kerry's address about Syria some days ago (citation to come later), he made the following remarks about John McCain.  According to Kerry, McCain would often say:

A war not joined is a war not enjoyed.

Seriously, fuck you once again.

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL: No 'Peer Review' Needed for Science!

A lot of people are upset about the size of the budget these days. But people can't seem to decide what exactly is the "discretional spending" that can be excised without much trouble or fervour.

This man, Representative Lamar Smith...

...who, judging by this picture, barely realizes where he is, thinks that we spend WAY TOO MUCH on National Science Foundation, mainly on research that doesn't supposedly "meet national priorities."

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL - Scumbag Watch - Mike Huckabee and The AFA

I'm sure I don't need to preface this article with anything having to do with Adam Lanza and the Newtown, CT incident. What happened there was absolutely horrendous, and should never have happened.

But that's not going to stop some people from taking advantage of it.

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL: Florida's "Stand Your Ground" Law Apparently Not Applicable to All

Marissa Alexander, in prison since 2010 for defending herself.

We all remember the Trayvon Martin case, right?  A kid, carrying only a can of iced tea and a pack of Skittles, shot and killed by an overzealous neighborhood watcher, George Zimmerman.  A guy who was later NOT EVEN ARRESTED, and was apparently protected under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" defense, which allowed killing if you, "reasonably believe that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to (yourself) or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony." (Re: 2011 Florida Statutes 776.016 (1))

Remember that?  It was only plastered all over the news a month or two ago.

Well, apparently it isn't applied equally to all.

In Jacksonville, Florida, one Marissa Alexander, nine days after the birth of a child, was fleeing from her husband Rico Gray.  She ran to the garage, but the door was jammed, so Marissa grabbed a pistol to defend herself.  Upon seeing this, Rico threatened to kill her.  Marissa, determined to scare him off, fired upwards.  It did indeed scare him off, but the incident landed HER in jail, awaiting a sentence of 20 years in prison for "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon."  Having been in jail since 2010, she had since tried to use the "Stand Your Ground" defense to get herself out, only to be denied. (Huffington Post)

Why is that?  Why was she denied this, while Zimmerman (at least until the media frenzy) was allowed to be free?  Was it a time thing, having been arrested before the law was enacted?

Her husband admitted in deposition that he had been in five relationships that bore children, and he "put his hands" on all except one.  How is SHE the one getting punished? HE ADMITTED THAT HE IS ABUSIVE. How can a guy, in Zimmerman, be allowed to be free for RUNNING AFTER A KID AND SHOOTING HIM, while someone else who DIDN'T kill their attacker, who was RUNNING AWAY, CLEARLY IN FEAR OF HER LIFE, but still didn't kill her attacker, being kept in prison in a mandatory 20 year sentence?

How does that work Florida?  HOW DOES THAT FUCKING WORK?

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL - Economic Advantage and Legislative Action

Did you ever get the feeling that THEY aren't listening to you? Ever feel that your government representative, be it senator, house member, or even president isn't listening to you AT ALL? Well, you're not alone.  I found the following recently, and quite frankly, it's FASCINATING.

The SLEDGE-A-TORIAL - The Problem with Trade Flows Between the United States and China

To say that this issue has been a contentious one would be making the understatement of the year. The debate goes like this: The United States, under the Bush Administration, contends that China is unfairly manipulating its currency to keep it at the 8.3 it’s been for the better part of a decade, basically floating against the dollar. China, on the other hand, denies any wrong doing, and maintains that the floating exchange rate is necessary for maintaining economic growth. This is not the first time there has been a trade issue between the U.S. and China; in fact, very recently, U.S. software manufacturers shot some rounds of ammunition at the Chinese government for not doing enough to curtail an apparent software piracy problem. Many manufacturers have been citing the low wages paid to its factory workers as an unfair competitive advantage. Despite all this, the main point of the contention is about the non-existant fluctuation of China’s yuan currency, and its affect on the major trade deficit the United States currently has with China.

Today...

Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us, spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me.”

- President George W. Bush
